Navita Singh: Investment Banker, Mathematics Enthusiast, Data Science Leader & Author
I was born and brought up in India and did my Integrated B.Tech. and M.Tech. in Mathematics and Computing from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. I am currently based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Mathematics and literature are two topics that I have been always been passionate about throughout my life. My professional journey as a quantitative analyst and data scientist enabled me to apply advanced analytics to solve real world problems in investing, demand forecasting, pricing, optimization and recently in agent evaluations.
I was trading equities, foreign exchange and fixed income using systematic strategies during my ten year stint in Hong Kong, Singapore and India. Witnessing the increasing application of artificial intelligence in quantitative asset management, I transitioned to a full time career as a data scientist since 2020.
The underrepresentation of women in senior leadership roles across STEM, financial investing, and technology was a recurring theme throughout my career. The lack of sponsorship and female role models often discourages young women from pursuing opportunities in these fields. This inspired me to write a historical novel featuring real women from history, portraying their lives and achievements to highlight the significant economic and political contributions women have made throughout history. I believe that humanity as a whole is disadvantaged when the intellectual talents, capabilities, and economic potential of half its population are not given the opportunity to flourish.
Creative writing is a hobby that I engage in my spare time. My maternal grandfather was a Sanskrit scholar and he regaled my cousins and me often with tales from Indian history and mythology. My summer vacations were incomplete without the treasure trove of ancient Indian folktales and stories that I heard from him. I was inspired to write short stories and poems after reading books from the library that he had painstakingly gathered at home.
